Fishing enthusiasts visiting our vacation rental on Lake Estes, Lake Estes Retreat, will find plenty of excellent fishing spots in and around the lake. Lake Estes offers a variety of fishing opportunities for anglers of all levels.

The area immediately below our home is a great fishing spot. You can fish from the shoreline or even climb out on the large rock outcrop just below our home. You can cast to some fairly deep water and a variety where there are a variety of fish species, including Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Lake Trout. If you want to head out to the middle of the lake, boat rentals are available at Lake Estes Marina. To get there, just walk down to the path below our home and turn left. The marina is down a few hundred yards.

If you head out our backyard to the path and turn right instead, you can easily walk to another excellent fishing spot – the west end of the lake near the Estes Park Golf Course. This area offers a shallow inlet that is ideal for fly fishing. The inlet is also home to a variety of fish species, including Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Cutthroat Trout. There are also a few points of land that jut out into the lake in this area. We enjoy fishing in these areas as there several places with trees around the shoreline providing a relaxing setting.

The Big Thompson River, which flows into Lake Estes, is another popular fishing spot. This is located in the same area near the golf course. The river offers a variety of fish species, including Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Cutthroat Trout. Anglers can access the river from several locations near Lake Estes, including the Big Thompson Canyon, the Moraine Park area, and the North Fork area. You can wade into the river near the small wooden footbridge and walk upstream.

If you want to go a little further, head just below the dam (Olympus Dam) of Lake Estes and there is a beautiful meadow where the Big Thompson River continues to flow. You can also take a vehicle down Rt. 34 down Big Thompson Canyon and there are multiple places to pull off and find a good place to fish.

Also, the Marys Lake area, located just a short drive from Lake Estes, is another great fishing spot. This lake offers a variety of fish species, including Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Brook Trout. The lake is stocked regularly, and anglers can access the lake from several locations, including the and the Marys Lake Trailhead.
